Obverse description Central field displays the crowned shield of Aragon bearing four vertical pales, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in relief with fine linear engraving characteristic of early 14th-century hammered coinage. The surrounding legend reads IACOBVS ARAGON, introduced by a cross pattee, running along the outer margin of the flan. The overall style is typical of Aragonese-Sardinian coinage struck at the Bonaria mint under James II.
