The upper portion carries the pious formula 'khallada mulkahu' (May God perpetuate his reign), while the lower portion bears the mint name 'Edirne' (Adrianople) together with the Hijri date, here rendered in an erroneous form as 8224 rather than the correct 824 AH. The date numerals are clearly visible at the base of the field, and the overall strike is characteristic of early fifteenth-century Ottoman provincial hammered technique, with an uneven flan edge. |
