Beneath the table, a hydria (jug) is shown, a standard attribute associated with sacred Pythian festival contests. The composition commemorates two prestigious local festival games — the Augusteia and the Pythia — held at Thyateira under the civic authority of the strategos Tiberius Claudius Stratonikianos. The reverse legend, distributed around and below the central device, records the magistrate's name and the titles of the festivals in full. |
