Silandus was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage depended entirely on the prestige of the Roman governor's name to carry weight — literally inscribed as the magistrate's guarantee of value. The archon Attalianus named in the legend is otherwise almost entirely obscure, known to scholarship only through the handful of bronzes issued under his tenure. At 52 grams, this piece sits at the heavy end of what Lydian civic mints were producing under the Antonines, suggesting a deliberate assertion of civic ambition from a city that rarely commanded attention from ancient sources.
