Germe was a minor Mysian city whose coinage output was modest enough that individual magistrates' names survive as the primary dating mechanism — the Glycon named in this issue's legend held the strategia during the Severan period, and his name appears on only a handful of known types. The sheer size and weight of this piece places it among the largest provincial bronze denominations struck anywhere in the Pergamene conventus, almost certainly intended for local prestige rather than routine exchange.
