| 裏面の説明 | Complex allegorical composition depicting the personifications of Gaia (Earth) and Thalassa (Sea) jointly supporting a statue of Geta (?) standing left, clad in military dress and holding a patera and sceptre. To the right, Gaia stands left, holding a cornucopia overflowing with ears of grain, symbolising terrestrial abundance; to the left, Thalassa stands right, holding a ship's rudder, emblematic of maritime dominion. In the lower central field, between the two personifications and beneath the statue, an eagle stands facing with head turned right, wings spread, clutching a wreath in its talons — a symbol of imperial apotheosis and divine favour. The reverse legend names the local strategos Menogenes II the Young and proclaims the twice-neocorate status of Pergamum. |
