Æ44 - Septimius Severus ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡ ΑΙ ΝΕΙΚΙΟΥ, ΓΕΡΜΗΝΩΝ

Germe was a minor Mysian city whose coin output under Septimius Severus depended almost entirely on the initiative of individual magistrates — the ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡ formula names the local strategos responsible for commissioning and funding the issue. Aineikios, named here, is otherwise unattested in the epigraphic record. At 44 mm and nearly 39 grams, this is among the largest bronze denominations produced by any city in the Pergamene conventus, a scale that reflects civic ambition more than commercial necessity.
