| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two nude male figures, identified as the Dioscuri or possibly Corybants, stand facing one another in a symmetrical composition at the centre of the field. Each figure wears a pileus (conical cap) on his head and holds a shield and spear; the figure on the left appears additionally to hold a hammer or similar implement. The arrangement evokes a cultic or civic significance appropriate to the local religious traditions of Aizanoi. The encircling Greek legend names the magistrate Eurycles and the civic institution (Gerousia) along with the ethnic ΑΙΖΑΝ, with one N reversed in the die. |
