| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a complex mythological composition of exceptional iconographic richness, centred on the standing nude figure of Heracles, depicted facing right, leaning against a tree trunk with his right arm resting upon his club; in his left hand he holds his bow and the Nemean lion skin. To the right in the middle ground, a deer stands facing right with head turned left, suckling the infant Telephos — an allusion to the founding myth of Pergamum. Perched above on a rock in the upper right field, an eagle stands facing left with wings outspread. The reverse legend distributed around the field names the strategos Diodoros and records Pergamum's status as holder of the neokorate for the second time. |
