背面描述 Homonoia seated left on a throne, holding a patera in her extended right hand and a cornucopia in her left arm, being crowned by Nike who approaches from the right with outstretched wreath; facing her stands Hermes to the right, holding a purse in his right hand and a caduceus in his left. The composition, depicting civic concord and mercantile prosperity, is a notable multi-figure type associated with the local magistracy at Hadrianeia. The Greek magistrate legend occupies the field around the figures.

附加信息

Hadrianeia was a minor city in Mysia whose civic coinage depended entirely on the patronage of local magistrates willing to fund issues at their own expense — or at least to lend their names to them. The magistrate Phanios Themison named here held the office of archon, and his tenure under Gordian III represents one of the more substantial documented issues from this mint. The sheer module of this piece, at 43mm, reflects civic ambition more than monetary need; medallion-scale bronzes like this were prestige objects, not pocket change.
