| Beschrijving keerzijde | Hephaestus, the divine craftsman, is depicted seated left on a cippus, his body turned right, working with a hammer upon a helmet which he grips with tongs over an anvil-column; to the right, Athena stands facing left, extending her arm to support the helmet and resting her other arm upon her shield. The scene alludes to the mythological forging of divine armour, a subject of local significance reflecting Thyatira's association with metalworking trades. The magistrate's name and ethnic are rendered in the field and exergue surrounding the figural composition. The composition is bold and well-articulated, characteristic of the larger civic bronze denominations of the Severan-era Asian mints. |
