| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figure of youthful Dionysus facing left, his weight shifted in a relaxed contrapposto stance, extending a cantharus downward over a panther at his feet while holding a long thyrsus in his opposite hand. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, records the names and titles of the local agonothete and hereditary priest for life of the Sebastoi, Glykon son of Demetrios, of Perperene, with noted orthographic irregularities (sic) in the inscription. The composition reflects the strong Dionysiac cult associations of the region and the local civic pride expressed through the honorific priestly title on this large-module provincial bronze. |
