| Beschrijving keerzijde | Full-length standing figure of Commodus, bearded, in military dress, facing the viewer with head turned to the left, holding a spear in his right hand and a sword in his left. The emperor is flanked by the turreted Tyche of Smyrna on the left and the turreted Tyche of Cyzicus on the right, both standing and facing one another; each Tyche holds a long transverse sceptre and simultaneously extends a wreath to crown the emperor, symbolising the joint civic alliance between the two cities. The reverse legend names the strategos Naibios Quintus and identifies the two participating cities. The composition is a rare and ambitious homonoia type celebrating the concordia between Smyrna and Cyzicus under imperial patronage. |
