Reverse description The reverse presents two deities in a facing composition: to the left, Athena stands facing right, holding a spear in her right hand and a Nike figure in her extended left hand, with a large round shield leaning against her side; to the right, Asclepius stands facing left, holding his serpent-entwined staff (caduceus-staff). The figures are rendered in the dignified civic style characteristic of Lydian provincial bronzes under the Antonine dynasty. The reverse field legend ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡΑ ΤΙΤΟΥ ΑΥΡΗ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΟΥ ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝΩΝ records the name of the local strategos Titus Aurelius Barbaros, as was customary for magistrate-attributed coinage of the Thyatira mint.
