An altar appears between the two figures. The scene emblematically commemorates the homonoia (concord) between the cities of Pergamum and Ephesus, a common theme in the civic coinage of Asia Minor under the Antonine emperors. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the strategos Publius Aelius Pious and declares the concord of the Pergamenes and Ephesians. |
