Temenothyrae was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under the joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus represents one of the last substantial bursts of provincial bronze production in the Greek East before the Roman currency reforms of the 260s effectively ended the autonomous civic mint tradition across Asia Minor. The magistrate name ΚΛΕΟΒΟΥΛΟϹ embedded in the legend ties this piece to a specific local official responsible for authorizing the issue — a naming convention that allows numismatists to sequence Temenothyraean bronzes into magistrate-based chronological groups even when regnal dating alone is ambiguous.
The city's attribution to the Conventus of Sardis placed it administratively under one of the seven judicial districts of Roman Asia, a designation that shaped which provincial governor oversaw its minting authority.
