| Beschrijving keerzijde | The iconic cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands facing front at the center of the composition, her body rendered in the characteristic xoanon style with supports flanking her legs and a small naiskos (temple) surmounting her polos headdress. Two stags flank the goddess at her sides. Surrounding this central cult image are four personifications of local topographical features: the river god Maeandros reclines to the left, holding a reed, and rests upon a water urn; Marsyas reclines opposite, holding a flute and similarly posed upon an urn. The nymph Therma is depicted holding a branch and urn, while Orgas crouches behind a boulder, holding a pedum. The Greek reverse legend, distributed around the field, records the name of the panegyriarch Bakchios and the names of the local deities and the civic ethnic of the Apameans. |
