Reverse description Caracalla, in full military dress and laureate, stands frontally in a quadriga advancing to the right, the four horses spread across the field. The emperor raises his right arm in a gesture of address or acclamation and holds a sceptre in his left hand. The composition is monumental in scale, befitting the large module of the flan, and reflects the honorific nature of the dedication recorded in the surrounding legend. The scene celebrates an imperial adventus or triumphal procession.
