| Reverse description | Elaborate civic allegory depicting Gaia and Thalassa jointly presenting a standing statue of Caracalla, shown in military dress facing left, holding a patera in his right hand and a sceptre in his left. To the left, Gaia stands facing right, supporting a cornucopia over sheaves of grain; to the right, Thalassa stands facing left, holding a rudder over a dolphin. Beneath the statue, between the two personifications, an eagle stands facing with wings spread, its head turned to the left, clutching a wreath in its talons — a prominent symbol of imperial power and divine favour. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border and surrounded by the eponymous magistrate and civic legend. |
