| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter back view typical of provincial coinage of the Severan period. The paludamentum is visible over the left shoulder, and the cuirass is rendered with detail. The circumferential legend in Greek runs around the bust within the field. |

Miletus had been minting civic bronze under Roman oversight for generations by the time Severus took power, but the magistrate named in this legend — Aurelius Demetrios, serving as archprytanis — anchors the issue to a specific local administrative moment. The archprytanis was the presiding officer of the civic council's executive committee, an office of genuine municipal prestige in the Ionian cities, and naming him on the coin was a deliberate assertion of continued civic identity within the imperial framework.
Miletus by this period was well past its classical peak but remained the dominant city of its conventus district for Roman judicial administration.
