Pergamum held the title of neokoros — temple warden of the imperial cult — multiple times over, and the "dis neokoros" designation on this issue reflects a civic pride verging on institutional obsession. The city leveraged each grant of neokorate status as political currency, embedding it into coinage to signal standing within the provincial hierarchy of Asia. The strategos Tullios Kratippos named in the inscription was a local magistrate whose tenure anchored the issue administratively, a common Pergamene practice for civic bronzes of this weight class under the Antonines.
