In his right hand he holds his characteristic knotted club, lowered toward the ground, while the Nemean lion skin is draped over his left arm. The figure is rendered in a bold, sculptural style consistent with provincial Pontic coinage of the Severan and later periods. The surrounding circular Greek legend references the civic era of Amisus, identifying the issuing city and the regnal year. The flat exergue line and broad flan are characteristic of large Æ issues from this mint. |
