Apollonia Salbace was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage under Gallienus reflects the unusual administrative continuity of the eastern provinces during his sole reign — a period when the western empire had fractured under the Gallic Empire and Gallienus was largely occupied containing Alamannic incursions across the Rhine-Danube frontier. The strategos Menandros named in the obverse legend was a local magistrate responsible for authorizing the issue, a distinctly Greek civic tradition that persisted in Asia Minor long after Rome had absorbed the region.

Bronze civic issues from the Conventus of Alabanda are poorly documented in major collections, and the X-number reference here reflects exactly that gap.
