| Reverse description | A lion strides vigorously to the right, rendered with musculature carefully articulated in the provincial die-cutting style. To the right of the lion stands an upright thyrsus, the Dionysiac staff wreathed at its head, a recurring cultic emblem in the coinage of Apamea. Above the lion's back rests a cista mystica, the sacred basket associated with the mysteries of Dionysos, reflecting the strong Dionysiac religious traditions of this Phrygian city. The reverse legend, divided around the field, names the local magistrate and high priest under whose authority the issue was struck. |
