Phocaea's civic bronzes of the 160s were issued under the authority of a local strategos — the magistrate named in the obverse legend — whose office functioned as the city's chief administrative post under Roman provincial oversight. The Conventus of Smyrna grouped Phocaea among the cities answerable to the assize court at Smyrna, a administrative arrangement that shaped which magistrates held the authority to authorize coinage. The name ΕΙΔΟΜΕΝΕΩϹ is unusual and poorly attested elsewhere, making prosopographical identification difficult.
Marcus Aurelius's co-reign with Lucius Verus from 161 complicates attribution of undated civic bronzes to a single emperor within this window.
