| Reverse description | Heracles, nude and advancing to the right, carries the live Erymanthian boar aloft over his left shoulder, referencing the Fourth Labour of Heracles. To the right of the composition, Eurystheus cowers within a large pithos (storage jar) sunk into the ground, recoiling in fear from the beast. The scene is rendered in the dynamic narrative style typical of high-quality Pergamene civic bronze coinage. The reverse field carries a multi-line Greek legend identifying the strategos and the neocorate status of Pergamum. |
