| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Adrasteia runs to the right with head turned back to the left, her peplos raised over her head, cradling the infant Zeus in her arms. Flanking her are two armed Corybantes in dynamic poses, each raising a shield and brandishing a sword, enacting the mythological scene in which they drowned out the cries of the infant Zeus to conceal him from Cronus. The scene is rendered with considerable narrative energy typical of high-quality Phrygian provincial bronzes, referencing the local mythological tradition associated with Apamea. The reverse legend, divided by a line, names the issuing magistrate and the city of the Apameans. |
