| Reverse description | A lion strides vigorously to the right, rendered with musculature and mane well defined in the provincial die-cutting style. Above the lion's back rests a cista mystica, the sacred basket associated with Dionysiac cult. To the right of the composition stands a tall thyrsus, the staff of Dionysus, emphasising the city's strong Dionysiac religious traditions. The Greek legend of the magistrate and ethnic inscription runs around the periphery and along the lower exergual area, divided by the groundline beneath the lion. |
