| 裏面の説明 | Asclepius, the god of medicine, stands facing at centre, holding his serpent-entwined staff (the caduceus of Asclepius) in his right hand. To his side stands a figure identified as possibly Septimius Severus, turned to the left, holding a patera over a flaming altar in one hand and a sceptre in the other, in an act of ritual libation. The composition emphasises the divine favour bestowed upon the emperor and the city's religious prestige. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, references the local strategos and Pergamum's status as twice neocorate. |
