Reverse description The cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands centrally on a raised base, facing front, adorned with her characteristic kalathos headdress and multiple supports or stags flanking her sides, in the iconic Ephesian cult image tradition. Flanking the goddess on either side stand the two co-emperors Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, each depicted facing the other, clad in toga and extending a patera over a flaming altar placed between them and the cult statue. The composition emphasises the imperial veneration of the principal Ephesian deity. The reverse legend in Greek proclaims the city's prestigious title as twice neokoros and first of Asia.
