The animal is rendered with naturalistic attention to musculature and feline posture. The dedicatory inscription ΠΟΛΕΜΩΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ ϹΜΥΡΝΑΙΟΙϹ encircles the design, recording the dedication by the sophist Polemon to the people of Smyrna.
