| Obverse description | Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III and Empress Tranquillina facing one another: Gordian III portrayed laureate, draped and cuirassed to the right, and Tranquillina diademed and draped to the left. The imperial couple appear in a vis-à-vis arrangement typical of provincial coinage of this period. The obverse legend encircles both busts, identifying the emperor by his full titulature and the empress by her name. The portrait style is characteristic of the Pergamene conventus workshop, with careful rendering of the imperial regalia. |
