| Beschrijving keerzijde | The god Hermes depicted standing in full figure, facing left, wearing a petasos (winged hat) and rendered in the traditional Hellenistic style. In his outstretched right hand he holds a purse, symbolising commerce and prosperity, while his left hand holds the caduceus, the herald's staff entwined with serpents and surmounted by wings. A chlamys drapes over his left arm. The Greek legend in the field and periphery records the city name, its free status, and the Pontic era year ϹΟΒ (292), corresponding to AD 241. The composition reflects the strong civic pride of Amisus as a free city within the Roman provincial system. |
