| Obverse description | Laureate, cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Emperor Commodus, with short beard, facing right and seen from the front. The imperial effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Smyrna conventus, with the layered military dress indicating divine-imperial authority. The obverse legend is disposed in a broad arc around the bust, naming the emperor in Greek characters. |

| Reverse description | Central scene depicting the Rape of Persephone: Hades stands in a galloping quadriga moving to the right, forcibly seizing Persephone. To the right, Athena stands facing left, her spear pointed downward in a gesture of intervention. Further to the right, Eros flies to the right, holding a lit torch aloft. Beneath the horses, a serpent coils and an overturned flower-basket lies in the exergual area, symbolising the abrupt disruption of Persephone's earthly activities. The reverse legend, disposed around the field, records the name of the strategus and the civic ethnic of Hyrcanis with a scribal error noted in the final letters. |
