背面描述 Leto striding right with head turned back to the left, her billowing drapery swept behind her in dynamic movement, cradling an infant deity in each arm — the divine twins Apollo and Artemis. She glances back toward an inscribed agonistic crown set in the field, a reference to the sacred games held in her honor. The composition is characteristic of Lydian provincial coinage celebrating the Letoeia and Pythia festivals at Tripolis.

附加信息

Tripolis in Lydia — not to be confused with the better-known Tripolis in Phoenicia — held festival coinage rights under the Roman provincial system, and this piece was struck for the Pythia, games held in honor of Apollo. The joint reign attribution to Valerian and Gallienus places it firmly within the co-regency years before Valerian's capture by Shapur I at the Battle of Edessa in 260, an event that effectively ended his half of the imperial partnership and rendered any subsequent joint-reign provincial issues impossible.

Lydian civic bronzes of this size and festival type were rarely struck in large quantities.
