| Opis rewersu | Zeus Askraios, radiate and draped, standing facing with arms outstretched between two sacred trees, each surmounted by an oracular crow, a distinctive cult type associated with the sanctuary at Halikarnassos. The deity is rendered frontally in a hieratic, static posture typical of provincial divine iconography. The surrounding Greek legend names the local magistrate Euphrantikos in his third term as archon, together with the civic ethnic of the Halicarnassians. The composition reflects the importance of the oracular cult of Zeus Askraios in the religious life of the city. |
