| Descrizione del rovescio | Artemis Ephesia, the turreted and banded cult idol of Ephesus, stands facing right between two stags, her characteristic multiple-breasted or egg-adorned torso rendered in the archaic hieratic style. Opposite her, Zeus (possibly identified as Keleneus, the eponymous deity of the Apamean region) is seated to the left on a throne, holding a Nike in his extended right hand and a long sceptre in his left. The composition alludes to the homonoia (civic concord) between Apamea and Ephesus, with the two tutelary deities of each city represented in confrontation. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the panegyriarch Pelagon and records the formal concordance between the two cities. |
