| Beschrijving keerzijde | Ares, the god of war, stands facing left in military attire, extending a patera in his right hand over a small lighted altar placed before him, while resting a long spear in his left hand. To his right stands the iconic cult statue of Artemis Ephesia, rendered frontally in the characteristic xoanon style with supports at the sides and the distinctive multiple-breast or egg-cluster ornamentation on the torso. The juxtaposition of the martial deity with the revered Ephesian goddess reflects the civic and religious identity of the Metropolitans. The reverse legend is distributed in the field and around the periphery, naming the local strategos responsible for the issue. |
