| Reverse description | Frontal cult statue of Artemis Leukophryene, turreted and standing, occupying the central field, being crowned simultaneously by two winged Nikai in flight on either side; flanking the scene are two eagles with wings spread, facing inward. At the outer margins, the co-emperors Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus stand facing one another, each clad in the toga and raising one arm in a gesture of salutation or adoration. The reverse legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ in Greek capitals identifies the issuing city. The composition reflects the high civic prestige accorded to the local goddess of Magnesia ad Maeandrum. |
