| Beschrijving keerzijde | Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess and principal deity of Laodicea ad Lycum, depicted standing facing, fully draped in a long chiton and himation, with a turreted polos crown upon her head and arms extended to either side. A lion crouches at her feet to the left and another to the right, serving as her divine attributes and guardians. The surrounding Greek legend records the dedicatory inscription of the local magistrate Agrippinus. The composition reflects the strong civic cult of Cybele at Laodicea and the euergetic tradition of magistrates commemorating their office through coin dedications. |
