正面描述 Veiled and draped bust of the Gerousia personified, facing right, with hair rendered in soft waves beneath a veil that falls behind the shoulder, clothed in a chiton and himation with finely engraved drapery folds. The bust is rendered in a high-relief provincial style characteristic of Phrygian civic coinage of the Antonine period. The circular legend in Greek surrounds the effigy, divided between the left and right fields. The coin is framed by a dotted border.

附加信息

Laodicea ad Lycum sat astride the Lycus River valley at the junction of major routes connecting the Aegean coast to the interior of Asia Minor, which made it one of the wealthier cities of the Phrygian conventus. This bronze was issued under a local archiereus — a provincial high priest of the imperial cult — whose name appears partially preserved in the legend as Attalos Aili(os?), suggesting a citizen bearing both a Greek dynastic name and a Roman nomen acquired through citizenship. The archieratic dedication formula ΑΝΕΘΗ identifies this as a votive civic issue, not routine circulation coinage.

Laodicea suffered a catastrophic earthquake in 60 AD and rebuilt largely at its own expense, a point of local pride still resonant a century later.
