| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gallienus facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the front, with the emperor depicted in full imperial military regalia. The legend encircles the effigy in Greek characters, reading ΑΥΤ Κ Π ΛΙΚ ΓΑΛΛΙΗΝΟϹ ϹΕΒΑϹ. The portrait displays the characteristic style of Phrygian provincial coinage of the joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus, with pronounced facial features and detailed drapery at the shoulder. The flan is broad and irregular, typical of large Æ civic issues from Apamea Cibotus during the mid-third century AD. |
