Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander facing right, seen from the rear, presenting a three-quarter back view characteristic of later Severan provincial coinage. The imperial effigy is rendered with careful attention to the layered drapery and armour details. The encircling legend runs along the outer border of the flan in Greek script.

Aanvullende informatie

Tralles, a prosperous city in the Maeander valley of Lydia, held the title of neokoros — official keeper of an imperial cult temple — a distinction aggressively competed for among Asian cities during the Severan period. The magistrate named in this issue, M. Aur. Hierokles, served as grammateus, the principal civic officer responsible for authorizing and overseeing local bronze coinage. His name appearing in the legend fixes this piece to a specific administrative tenure, making it a datable document of municipal governance as much as a coin.
