Synnada, a Phrygian city granted the status of assize center (conventus seat) under the Roman provincial reorganization, struck civic bronzes throughout the Severan period largely as a matter of local prestige rather than economic necessity — imperial silver handled actual commerce. The city is better remembered today as the source of the prized Synnadic marble, a purple-veined stone quarried nearby and shipped across the empire for elite building projects.
