The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features of the emperor as depicted during the Severan period. The obverse legend encircles the effigy in Greek characters. | Beschrijving keerzijde | Demeter seated left upon a cippus or stone throne, her figure rendered in dignified, classicizing style typical of Mysian provincial coinage. In her raised right hand she holds ears of grain, while her left hand supports a cornucopia, symbols of agricultural abundance and divine fertility. The goddess is depicted in long, flowing drapery, her feet resting on a footstool or ground line. The reverse legend naming the strategus and the city of Adramyteum runs around the field in Greek characters. |
