Additional information

Stratonicea, a prominent city in Caria, struck civic bronzes under named magistrates throughout the imperial period — the inscription naming Juliados son of Hierokles identifies him as the presiding strategos responsible for this issue. Such magistrate attributions are invaluable for sequencing the otherwise undated civic coinage of the Alabanda conventus, where the Roman governor's circuit court created administrative focal points that influenced local minting activity.

Severus visited the eastern provinces extensively during his campaigns against Pescennius Niger in 193–194, and Carian cities had strong incentive to demonstrate loyalty through bronze civic issues bearing his name early in the reign.
