Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Philip I (Philip the Arab) facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Ephesian mint, with the radiate lines of the laurel wreath clearly articulated. The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The coin exhibits a broad, slightly irregular flan characteristic of large provincial bronzes struck under the Severan-era tradition.
