| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I facing right, rendered in three-quarter rear view, a presentation style characteristic of mid-third century provincial Greek coinage. The emperor's laurel wreath is clearly rendered atop his head, while the paludamentum and cuirass are visible on the shoulder and chest. The encircling Greek legend runs along the border of the flan, reading from upper left. The portrait displays the bold, somewhat rough engraving style typical of the Samian civic mint under Philip I. |
