Themisonium was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Maximinus Thrax represents one of the more obscure corners of the Greek Imperial series. Maximinus never visited the eastern provinces — he spent his entire reign campaigning on the Rhine and Danube frontiers — yet cities like Themisonium continued issuing bronze in his name, a routine act of loyalty to a emperor most of them would never see.
The Conventus of Philomelium grouped several such small Phrygian communities for administrative and judicial purposes, and their shared framework partly explains why civic coinage persisted here at all.
