Obverse description Heroic draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, laureate, with long beard and flowing curls, facing right and seen from the rear, wearing cuirass and paludamentum. The obverse legend encircles the imperial portrait, identifying the emperor by his titles. The portrait style reflects the mature, philosophically austere iconography characteristic of Antonine provincial coinage from Asia Minor.
